Obituary of Barbara Hayes With her husband by her side, Barbara Friedman Hayes died peacefully after a battle with lung cancer on April 19, 2018 in Middletown, N.Y. Barbara was born December 29, 1942 at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in NYC to Muriel Singer and Harry Friedman. After her father died, her mother married Unge Cantenese who helped raise Barbara and her siblings and loved them as his own. Barbara was united in marriage to Frank Heffernan.

The marriage did not last, but they maintained a close friendship until his death in 2017. Barbara was united in marriage to the love of her life and best friend Jim Hayes in 1979. They made many memories and shared a love for motor, travel & adventure.

She was kind, had a positive attitude and a humble heart. She raised two loving sons of her own, four step children and a large number of foster sons as a foster parent for the state of New York. They have all felt the loss of her with a heavy heart.

Barbara had a passion and love for animals, she was well known for the breeding of quality Dobermans and English Bulldogs. Barbara liked motorcycles since the first time she jumped on one and went for a ride. She loved her Moto Guzzi and always looked forward to attending the yearly Americade in Lake George.

Barbara is preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Sandra Schultz. She is survived by her husband of 39 years, Jim Hayes of Unionville, NY and sons, Joseph of Berlin, New Hampshire, Matthew of Mahwah, New Jersey, Step Children Sherri, Terri, Bobbi and Jim all in California, 14 Grandchildren, foster sons Larry, Deon, Monte, Walter, and Arnel (and others for a shorter period of time, brother Steve Friedman of Homestead, Florida, nephews Paul , Daniel & Harry and niece, Renee all from Florida as well as many lifelong friends. All are welcomed to join the family on May 12th for a Grave side services at 11AM located at Glen Dyberry Cemetery Rr 4, Honesdale, Pennsylvania and a celebration of Barbara’s life at the Unionville Fire Department, Minisink Hose CO.
