Obituary of Richard Stevens Richard Curtis Keli’iaukai Stevens, 28, of Middletown, NY, died Tuesday, June 26, 2018 in Tuxedo, NY. Curtis was born on February 11, 1990 in Goshen, NY, the Son of Richard K. Stevens and Mary T. (Peterson) Stevens. He was a graduate of Minisink Valley High School, Class of 2008, a proud Eagle Scout and proud Veteran.
Curtis served in the US Army from 2009 to 2012. He was stationed in Baumholder, Germany, in 4-70th Armor Regiment, Able Company, 1st Platoon Rawdawgs as a Tanker. In 2011 he deployed to Urozgan Province of Afghanistan in Operation Enduring Freedom.
His mission: to disrupt Taliban & Al Qaeda Operations as well as providing safety and stabilization to the people of that region also termed (COIN) Counter-Insurgency, preventing terrorists from gaining a stronghold and helping the civilians establish schools and a safe place to live. Specialist Richard Curtis Keli’iaukai Stevens served admirably and lived up to his platoon and company’s motto ALWAYS READY. Following his service and through Helmets to Hardhats, Curtis became a member and was employed through Laborers’ International Union of North America, Local 754.
Curtis is survived by parents; Richard and Mary Stevens of Middletown, NY; brother Nicholas Stevens of Buffalo, NY; sister, Katrina Stevens of Middletown, NY; loving girlfriend, Katherine Irace of Goshen, NY; maternal grandmother, Sandra Peterson of Campbell Hall, NY; paternal grandmother, Gail Stevens of Ithaca, NY; and many Aunts, Uncles, Cousins and friends. He was predeceased by; paternal grandfather, Richard C. Stevens of Middletown, NY; and maternal grandfather, Joseph J. Peterson of Campbell Hall, NY. Curtis was a larger than life soul whose presence always brought light to whatever room he was in.
He was fiercely loyal, supportive, and proud of everyone he loved. He always went out of his way to make everyone he came in contact with feel a little bit better about themselves. He loved tanks, guns, beer, fireworks, and was especially partial to his dog, Opie.
He was a man other men would strive to be. He will be severely missed. Visitation will be Monday, July 2 from 2 to 4PM & 7 to 9PM at the Donovan Funeral Home, Inc, 82 South Church Street, Goshen, NY.
A Catholic Mass will be Tuesday, July 3 at 11AM at St. Joseph’s Church, Cottage St., Middletown, NY. Burial with full military honors will follow at The Orange County Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Goshen, NY. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to The Wounded Warriors Project in Curtis’ name.
