Obituary of Barbara Wilson Dover-Foxcroft – Barbara Parkman Mitchell Wilson, 99, went peacefully to be with the Lord on November 22, 2018, in Dover-Foxcroft. She was born October 24, 1919 at Frenches Mill, the daughter of Bernice (Morrison) Parkman Bennett and Ernest M. Parkman. Barbara graduated from Sangerville High School, Class of 1936 and attended the Maine School of Commerce (Husson College) in Bangor, where she was a member of the Epsilon Tau Epsilon honorary sorority.
She was an active member of the Dover-Foxcroft United Methodist Church, serving as Sunday School teacher and youth leader, a 4-H leader, member of the Cooperative Extension, Junior Cosmopolitan Club, the South Sangerville Grange since 1934, and life time member of the Susie Carr Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star. Barbara volunteered for many years at the Hibbard Nursing Home. She retired from Hardwood Products Company after 44 years of loyal service.
She was a remarkable woman who was loved by all. She gave selflessly to others in every way! It was her strong faith in God that was her constant guide in all that she did.
Her love was her family, which extended to all of God’s children! For many years she remained actively involved with church, grange Heartwise, and the YMCA. She had a long-time interest in camping, hiking, fishing, sewing and knitting, square-dancing, swimming, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing, playing cards, reading, writing poetry, and tole painting.
She was known as the family historian, keeping wonderful stories alive through her journals and through the re-telling of long-ago memories. Barbara always gave a creative touch and a unique flair to everything she did. Her thoughtfulness and caring, her unending love, and her generosity can never be replaced.
Barbara once wrote that if there was one piece of advice she could give to the younger members of the family, it is this, “Take time to enjoy and share the wholesome, simple things with family and loved ones along the way and thus build a wealth of precious memories beyond compare”. She lived a full life of enjoying every day and was a blessing to everyone who knew her. She is survived by her two nieces: Janet Parkman Walton of Schuylerville, NY and Constance Parkman Clarke of Schenectady, NY; six ‘grandchildren’; seven ‘great-grandchildren’; her husband’s children, Lorna Wilson Carroll of Kingston, NY, and Deanna Wilson Latella of Dover-Foxcroft; a sister-in-law, Louanne Wilson Bahm of Altamonte Springs, FL; five grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by her first husband, Harvey Mitchell’s four nieces, Shirley Drew, Beverly Farrar, Sharon Melia, and Merrilee Levensailor, and their families. She was predeceased by her first husband, Harvey Mitchell in 1961, her husband, Aubrey Wilson in 2005, and her brother, Keith Morrison Parkman in 2000. Friends are invited to call from 10:00 a.m. until time of funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 26, 2018, at the Lary Funeral Home, Dover-Foxcroft, with Pastor Ray Beless officiating.
