Obituary for Benjamin J. “Buddy” Elkington III Benjamin J. Elkington III, 78, of Kennebunkport, passed away surrounded by his loving family on February 2, 2019. He was born March 18, 1940 in Boston, MA to Benjamin J. and Milwood (Richardson) Elkington II. Ben graduated from Durfee High School in Fall River, MA where he was in the Junior Civil Air Patrol and also attended Durfee College of Technology in Fall River, MA.

He was Manager and Wine Connoisseur for Gordon’s Liquors in Waltham, MA for 25 years until his retirement in 2003. Ben married Barbara Amaral on August 12, 1961 and they were married for over 57 years. He was a life-long jazz aficionado and collector of music, traveling the Jazz Scene in New England for 50 years.

Ben loved sports, especially the Red Sox and as a Celtics Season Ticket holder. He also enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s athletic, music and drama activities over the last 20 years of his life. Ben was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin J. and Milwood Elkington II.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Elkington of Kennebunkport; sons, Christian M. Elkington and his wife, Carol-Lee of Kennebunkport and Evan D. Elkington and his wife, Amy of Middleton, MA; brother, Richard N. Elkington and his wife, Mary-Frances of Fall River, MA; and grandchildren, Christian Jr., Tyler, and Elizabeth of Kennebunkport and Evan Jr. and Eva of Middleton, MA. A private family graveside service will be held at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Taunton, MA in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ben’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association at www.
