Obituary for Bernard D. Knauss Bernard Dale Knauss of Mabank passed away November 19, 2018 surrounded by family and friends. He was born April 17, 1932 in Hamar, North Dakota to William J. and Vivian Ella (Gress) Knauss, both of whom preceded Bernard in death along with his son, Dean Knauss. Bernard graduated from Tolna High School in Tolna, ND after which he attended, and studied at, Wahpeton State College of Science.
Bernard was a proud military veteran having enlisted in the Army and he served in Korea until being honorably discharged. On April 2, 1955, he married his best friend and the love of his life, Charlotte, at Sigdal Lutheran Church in Bernard’s home town of Hamar, ND. They moved to Texas in 1957 and in 1960, he and his cousin, Jack, opened Terrell Equipment.
His honesty and easy-gong personality made every customer feel as though they had not only bought quality products but they also made a loyal friend in Bernard. He and Charlotte moved to Mabank and where Bernard was very active in several organizations including the American Legion Post 310 in Gun Barrel City, the US Coast Guard Auxiliary of Cedar Creek Lake where he was a part of Floatilla 514 for 26 years and a member of the Cedar Creek Yacht club and the many friendships and memories made on the lake will be treasured by all who knew him. His faith was a constant in his life and he and Charlotte both attended First United Methodist Church-Mabank.
A devoted husband, loving father, and steadfast friend, Bernard will be missed greatly by his family and friends. He is survived by his beloved wife of over 63 years, Charlotte Knauss, of Mabank; son, Dale Knauss and Donna Hardin, of Mabank as well as several other extended family members, his church family and a host of friends. Funeral service for Bernard will be 2:00 pm Saturday, November 24, 2018, at First United Methodist Church, 501 S. Third St. Mabank, with the family receiving friends beginning at 1:00pm to service time.
Services will be under the direction of Max Slayton Funerals and Cremations. In honor of Bernard’s love of helping others, his family would encourage all, that instead of floral tributes, to consider making a donation to your choice of a charity such as a local church ministry food pantry, animal rescue, a veteran’s assistance organization or the charity of your choice.
