Berneice “Bunny” A. Burke February 12, 1941 – March 28, 2019 Share this obituary View/Sign Guest Book| Send Private Condolences| Send Sympathy Card| Memorial Donation Berneice A. “Bunny” Burke, 78, Atchison, Kansas, died Thursday, March 28, 2019. Mass of Christian burial will be Monday, April 1, 2019 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Benedict’s Church with Rev. Jeremy Heppler, OSB as celebrant.

Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Parish rosary will be recited Sunday, March 31st at 4:00 P.M. at the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home with visitation to follow until 6:00 p.m. Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Benedict’s School Endowment, St. Benedict’s Abbey or Mount St. Scholastica and may be left in care of the funeral home.

Online condolences and memories may be shared at www. arensbergpruett.com. Bunny was born February 12, 1941, in Atchison, Kansas, the daughter of Joseph and Berniece (Searles) Haegelin.

She attended St. Benedict’s Grade School and graduated from Mount Saint Scholastica Academy. Following graduation she attended Mt. St. Scholastica College.

She then taught for a year in Kansas City. She and Dr. Joseph V. Burke were united in marriage on July 11, 1970, in Atchison, Kansas, at St. Benedict’s Church. She was a member of St. Benedict Parish.

Bunny enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Survivors include her husband, Dr. Joseph Burke, Atchison, KS, two sons, Joseph J. Burke, Atchison, KS, Daniel (Leslie) Burke, Kansas City, MO, three daughters, Jenny (Joseph) Fernandez, Greenwood, MO, Susanne (Chris) Yoder, West Plaines, MO, Sarah (Keith) Nguyen, Boston, MA, a sister, Betty (Phil) Boos, Atchison, KS, and ten grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Haegelin, and two sisters, DeeDee Leahy, and Mary Carol Shey.
