Bert Bonney Saville, 82, was called home to be with The Lord on June 29th, 2018. Born on August 23, 1935 in Charlotte, NC, he graduated from Grainger High School in 1954 and then attended The Citadel in Charleston, SC where he played basketball for 2 years before marrying his high school sweetheart Bettie Sue Jones in 1956. Following his marriage to Bettie, he worked for his father-in-law at Earnest Jones TV for 18 years before opening his own store Highland TV in 1974.

Bert was the owner operator of Highland TV (Curtis Mathes) until his retirement in 1996. He remained involved in the television and appliance business as a hobby until just a few years ago. Bert was an active member of the Kinston Evening Rotary Club for over 12 years while running Highland TV.

He retired from the North Carolina National Guard in 1979 attaining the rank of Major and remained an active member of the North Carolina National Guard Association until his death. Bert was an active member of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Kinston and for many years served as an usher for Sunday services. Bert had may loves in addition to his family that included watching sports and westerns on TV, spending time at his Cedar Point beach house, and eating Barbeque.

Bert was preceded in death by his loving wife of almost 62 years Bettie, and his parents Carson F. Saville and Caroline B Saville, both of Kinston. He is survived by his brother, Carson F. Saville Jr, of Puyallup, Washington, as well as his 3 children; daughters, Sherrie Peoples and husband, Jason Peoples, Bonney Gray and husband, Stephen Gray all of Kinston, and son Todd Saville and wife Elizabeth of Enterprise, Alabama. Grandchildren – Lauren Shaw, Jacob Peoples, Allyson Saville, Amber Saville and Adam Saville.

Great-grandchildren – Eli Shaw, Caroline Peoples and his 4 legged 9 year old best doggie friend Shih Tzu Mei Ling. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, July 7, 2018 at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church with Father Tom Warren officiating. There will be a reception held following the service in Moseley Hall.
