Obituary for Bette Reynolds Bette Nell Deaton Reynolds (formerly Buchanan) passed on to her home in heaven on June 16, 2018. She was born in Corsicana, Texas on June 26, 1940 to Bessie Jackson Deaton and Luther Carl Deaton. She was the youngest of five children.

Bette Nell was raised in Corsicana, Texas. In October of 1962 she met and married Donald Laverne Buchanan. After living in Virginia, Florida as well as Iowa, the couple returned home to Corsicana, TX where they raised their four children.

Bette Nell never knew an enemy. She was very social and had many friends throughout her life. She was married to Donald for 37 years until his death.

She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church, but in her later years she had a fondness for the Corsicana Cowboy Church. Bette Nell had many years of employment in many different areas of life and loved it all. She delighted in working at Corsicana Day Nursery and would talk about the children in her care well into their adulthood.

She loved working fruitcake season at the Collin Street Bakery year after year well into her sixties. She also worked for many years for Mastervend inside Guardian Glass and she adored the people she prepared meals for day and night. Bette Nell loved her family, music, art, and life.

She could play piano by ear alone, and often treated whichever facility she was in to her rendition of “Old Rugged Cross”. She was also artistically talented. She was a member of the Corsicana Art League and has even sold her artwork, although she never cared about the money.

She could find beauty in a sunset, or in the color of the rust on a barbed wire fence. Her favorite song was “Hotel California” by the Eagles, but she loved everything from Elvis to Bob Seger to Lady Gaga to Willie Nelson. She delighted in her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

She was a very proud mother and never passed an opportunity to tell everyone all about them. Bette Nell was a passionate mother and amazing person who will be sorely missed by all of those she leaves behind. This includes four children, 19 grandchildren, and two great grandchildren as well as countless cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

She was the kind of person that would defend the underdog. She could be cordial and kind even to those that chose not to get along with her. She had a sense of justice and an eagerness to right wrongs.

Most of all, however, she embraced life. She walked on through struggles until she could find more pleasing footing again. She chose excitement over safety, passion over complacency, and love above all.

She was truly a colorful peacock in a world full of doves. She was preceded in death by her parents Bessie and Luther Carl Deaton, her brother Bill Deaton, her brother Carl “Son” Deaton, her brother Bob Deaton, and her sister Anne Deaton Pinkard. She is also preceded in death by her husband of 37 years Donald Lavern Buchanan, her second husband Billy Roy Rash, and her third husband Marlin Reynolds.

She is survived by her son Carl Buchanan and wife Virginia from Magnolia, Texas; her son Donald Alvin Buchanan and wife Lillian from Cleburne, Texas; her daughter Tracy Buchanan and husband David Riley from Rockwall, Texas and her daughter Heather Malloy from Groesbeck, Texas as well as her 19 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Visitation with the family will be on Tuesday, June 19, 2018 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Corley Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at 2:00 PM at Corley Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Charky Marquis officiating.

Burial will follow at Hamilton-Beeman Cemetery in Retreat, Texas.
