OBITUARY Betty A Cole April 13, 1926 – October 7, 2018 Betty A. Cole, 92, of Jackson passed away after a brief illness on Sunday, October 7, 2018. Born in Orange, NJ, she graduated from East Orange High School and Thomas Edison College. While a still a senior in high school, she was recruited to train and work as a draftsperson to help with the war effort.

She worked for Tung-Sol and Westinghouse. After raising her large family, she worked for the NJ Dept. of Labor, Unemployment Division as a claims examiner and then as an investigator before retiring.

She was predeceased by her parents, Francis J. and Madeleine (nee Amblard) Shaw and her siblings: Frank (Ruth) Shaw of Toms River, George (Mary) Shaw of Las Vegas, NV, and Madeleine (Michael) Hydash of Oakdale, CA. Betty will be remembered by her devoted husband of 72 years, William (Bill) H. Cole. They resided in West Orange for 30 years before moving to Jackson in 1982.

She was the loving mother of the late Kathleen Cole of Toms River, Nancy (Tom) Nevius of Maplewood, Janet Cole of Manchester, William (Hilary) Cole, Jr. of Coral Springs, FL, the late Lorraine Cole of Maplewood, the late Curtis (Charlene) Cole of Oxford, Elaine (Bill) McGuire of Lanoka Harbor, Dennis (Dawn) of Monroe, GA, and the late Marian Cole of Beachwood. She leaves behind 20 devoted grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. A seamstress extraordinaire, Betty also enjoyed reading, crocheting, doing word puzzles and Sudoku, gardening, and volunteering.

She was always ready for new experiences and travel. Last year, at the age of 91, she white water rafted on the Colorado River, visited Niagara Falls and survived the Maid of the Mist adventure. A celebration of the long life of Betty Cole will be held at the Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home 26 Mule Road, in Toms River on Thursday, October 11 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm.

A mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Monica’s Church, 679 West Veteran’s Highway, Jackson at 12:00 pm on Friday followed by internment at Brigadier General William Doyle Memorial Cemetery, 350 Province Line Rd, Wrightstown, NJ. Donations in her memory may be made to Haven/Beat The Street Inc. 231 North New Rd. Absecon NJ 08201.
