She was born in Pottsville, AR on March 14, 1935 to the late Thomas Benton Jones and Ethel Marie Bowden. Betty grew up on Crow Mountain in Arkansas and in Dallas Texas, graduating Pottsville High School with the class of 1952.

She attended Arkansas Polytechnic College (now Arkansas Tech University), where she met and fell in love with Willard Smith. They were married on August 27, 1954, and had two children, Mark and Nancy. Betty braved the loss of Willard in the late 1960s and raised Mark and Nancy, working as a legal secretary and at one point co-owning a clothing boutique.

When her children were grown, Betty met Robert Miller, who had also lost his first spouse, and the two fell in love. They were married on May 7, 1976 and celebrated 42 happy years together this past spring. After retiring, Betty and Robert moved to Plover, WI, to be closer to family.

Together, they survived the loss of their two children, Mark in 2005 and Nancy in 2009. They both fell ill within a week of each other in April 2018, and moved to Maplewood of Sauk Prairie. Betty was a sweet woman and a loving mother and grandmother.

She loved to read, and had an impeccable sense of style. Though she suffered many losses during her lifetime, she was nearly always cheerful and bright, bringing humor and light to difficult times. Betty is survived by her sister, Pat Fiskin of Little Elm, TX; former son-in-law and friend, William Radue of Stevens Point, WI; two grandchildren, Rebecca (Ashley) Radue of Madison, WI and Mark Radue of Minneapolis, MN.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by Robert one week prior to her passing, first husband Willard Smith, two children Mark Smith and Nancy Smith, two brothers, Richard Jones, John Paul Jones, and Jerry Jones, and a sister, Neva Dene Stark. As per Betty and Robert’s wishes, a private family ceremony will be held in Arkansas in the summer. Betty’s family wishes to thank the staff of Maplewood of Sauk Prairie, who took exceptional care of Betty and Robert.
