Betty’s Obituary Betty Jane Bates, 77, passed away on January 18, 2019 at a local hospital. Mrs. Bates was born on July 20, 1941 in Oberlin, LA, graduated from St. Charles Academy, and raised her family in Westlake, LA. She was a parishioner of St. John Bosco Catholic Church.

At the church, she taught catechism for over 50 years. She was an Extraordinary Minister, a Lector at Mass, a Catholic Daughter, Lady’s Altar Society, and Order of the Eastern Star. She was a current member of the Westlake City Council and a former employee of the McNeese State Registrar’s Office.

She is survived by her husband of 35 years, Mr. Gerald Bates; four sons, Mark (Melanie), John, Kevin (Lisa), and Brent Window; four step children, James, Phyllis, Barbara, and Jerri Bates; three brothers, Gerald, Rodney, and Jud Guillory; sister, Belinda Graham; daughter-in-law, Amy Window; thirteen grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, Judie and Mary Lou Guillory. A Funeral Mass will be at St. John Bosco Catholic Church at 10AM on Tuesday, January 22.

Cremation following the service has been entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will be at Johnson Funeral Home at 5PM to 8PM on Monday, January 21 with a rosary at 6PM. Visitation will continue at the funeral home on Tuesday Morning from 8:30AM to 9:30AM.
