Betty Jean Funston, age 87, of Edwardsville, passed away at 11:25 a.m. on Wednesday, January 9, 2019, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, Illinois. She was born April 8, 1931, in Edwardsville, the daughter of the late Edward & Lilie (Dauderman) Volz. Betty married the late Marvin R. Funston on June 24, 1949, at Eden United Church of Christ in Edwardsville.

He preceded her in death on June 28, 2000. She is survived by one son, Clay M. Funston & wife Cheri of Edwardsville; three grandchildren, Katy Wilson & husband John, Daniel Funston, and Kimberly Williams; four great grandchildren, Marvin & Luke Wilson, Anthony Morris Funston, and Lillian Williams. Betty was preceded in death by one son Mark Funston; one brother, Wilbur Volz; and one sister, Evelyn Lane.

She was loved by many, be it family or friends. She was a member of Eden Church in Edwardsville and the Main Street Community Center, where she loved playing cards. Betty also played in the ladies golf leagues at Oak Brook and the American Legion, bowled in the ladies league at Camelot Bowl in Collinsville, and loved to travel.

Betty was cremated according to her wishes. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 19, 2019, at Eden Church in Edwardsville, with Rev. John Roberts officiating.
