Our beloved Ms. Betty Jean Pierce, 70, departed this life on September 19,2018. She was born on June 21, 1948 in Hartford County, North Carolina to the late Rufus and Inez Newsome. Betty Jean is survived by her six children, the late Denise L. Patterson; Tony E. Pierce of Hampton, VA; Mack M. Pierce of Hampton, VA; Juanita (James) Burrell of Columbia, SC; Mario R. Pierce of Newport News, VA; and David D. Pierce of Hampton, VA; 14 grandchildren and a host of great grandchildren.

She also survived by many sibling; Carter (Dottie) Newsome of Hampton VA; Celia Dixon of Newport News, VA; Rufus Newsome Jr. of Hampton Va; Mildred (Raleigh) Askew of Hampton, VA; the late Lindsey Newsome; Edith Melton of Hampton, VA; Clarice West of Portsmouth, VA; the late Tillie Melton & Maude Lane, many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews. Special Friends, George Wright of Hampton, VA; Mack & Beatrice Pierce of Ahoskie, NC; David Mathis of New York. Service for Ms. Pierce will be held 1:00p.m. Tuesday, September 25, 2018 at New Hope Baptist Church 1415 Big Bethel Rd.

by Dr. Christopher C. Carter Sr., Interment will follow at Hampton Memorial Gardens. Ms. Pierce will lie in state two hours prior to service. It is the desire of the Pierce family that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
