Obituary for Betty Jean Singletary Betty Jean (Griffin) Singletary – 78 of Valdosta stepped into the presence of Our Almighty Lord and Savior Monday, July 9, 2018 following a lengthy illness. She was born on September 21, 1939 in Nashville, GA to the late Reuben & Juanita (Rhodes) Griffin. Perhaps you knew Betty Jean as the tiny baby her daddy carried in his overalls pocket, or maybe you knew her as a blue-eyed teenager with jet black hair.
If so, she may have been your dance instructor at the Ora Lee West Community Center. She was a popular young lady in those days- partly because of her stunning beauty and partly because she was the only teenager in the neighborhood who owned a record player. Betty Jean met the love of her life, Burn-L Kinsey, when she was 17.
The two were married almost immediately and soon after started their family. Betty Jean devoted herself as a Christian, Wife and Mother, but she also enjoyed a challenging career outside the home as well. For 25+ years, Betty was not only the General Manager of Days Inn, but also the Regional GM Trainer for the hotel chain.
This was especially impressive considering her 9th grade education along with pioneering gender equality at that time. Her success is credited to her impeccable work ethic, and ability to adapt and overcome. She was always a hard-worker but enjoyed her downtime- and did so with family, with The Word of God, solving crossword puzzles and numerous Wheel of Fortune phrases as well as indulging in a Danielle Steel novel… rather, all of them.
Betty was blessed with the constant love and companionship of her youngest son and their dog, Priscilla, in her later years. She laughed every day. Her words were never careless but encouraging and edifying and laced with wisdom.
She saw the best in people- everyone- even Snoop Dog. Betty loved The Lord and His Word and clung to her faith during the darkest valleys of losing loved ones. Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Kinsey and daughter, Renee Pendleton, as well as her brother, Terrell Griffin, and sister, Evelyn Jabon.
Her spirit is carried on by her 2 Sons: David Kinsey, Lake Park, Reuben Kinsey, Valdosta; Grandchildren: Krissy Sanders (Hiram), Kyle Kinsey (Britney), Jesse Peacock, Bill Pendleton, Jr., Steven Pendleton, Stephanie Hodges and Duran Pendleton; Her Precious Niece: Pam Jabon, and a number of great grandchildren, nieces & nephews. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, July 13, 2018 in the Valdosta Chapel of Music Funeral Services to celebrate Betty’s life. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the services.
