Betty Joann Defer 86 of Streetsboro died Sunday, April 29, 2018 at the Gables of Hudson. She was born May 13, 1932 in Smithville, WV to Andrew Jackson and Goldie E. (Dye) Evans. Betty was a member of the Streetsboro United Methodist Church, Streetsboro Historical Society, Daughters of the American Revolution and Seniors Abroad.

She worked many jobs during her life, including management of Defer’s Sohio Station and employment at Defer Tire. Survivors include her sons Chuck (Deb) Defer of Hiram and Mark (Christine Thompson) Defer of Aurora and grandchildren Mary E. Defer, David A. Defer and Elizabeth Ward. She was preceded in death by her husbands Henry A. Defer, Sr. and William G. Simon, Sr., sons Henry A. Defer, Jr. and David M. Defer, sisters Lucille and Jean and brothers Gale and Albert.

Calling hours will be from 5 pm to 8 pm Friday, May 4, 2018 at the Streetsboro United Methodist Church, 8940 State Route 43, Streetsboro, Ohio. Funeral services will be at 10 am on Saturday, May 5, 2018 at the church with Reverend Annette Dimond officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery in Streetsboro.

The family request memorials to the Alzheimer’s Association, 23215 Commerce Park #300, Beachwood, Ohio 44122. Arrangements entrusted to Shorts Spicer Crislip Funeral Home Streetsboro Chapel.
