Obituary for Billy Byrd Billy L. Byrd, 87, of Oak Ridge, TN passed away on April 23, 2018 at NHC Farragut in Knoxville. Bill was born February 5, 1931 in Indian Mound, TN and was the son of the late Tom and Flossy Byrd. He graduated from Dover High School and served in the Air Force for 3 years at Lackland Air Force base in San Antonio, TX.

In 1952, he married Eva Clark, and they lived in San Antonio for a year before his discharge in 1953. The couple returned to Tennessee and Bill enrolled at Austin Peay State University, receiving his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry in 1955. He later accepted a job at ORAU working in cancer research, where he remained until his retirement in 1994.

Bill was a loyal husband, father, and grandfather, and he took great pride in his family. He was a member of the New York Avenue Church of Christ in Oak Ridge, as well as a longtime member of Oak Ridge Country Club and Oak Ridge Senior Center, where he made many friends that became part of his family. In addition to his parents and several brothers and sisters, Bill is preceded in death by his beautiful wife of 64 years, Eva Clark Byrd.

Survivors include his brother Bobby Byrd of Dover, TN, and sister Lillian Rogers of Toledo, OH, son, Barry A. Byrd of Knoxville, TN, and daughter Suzanne Byrd of Richmond, KY. Other survivors include grandchildren Sarah Byrd Darby of Nashville, TN, Rachael Byrd Scates of Knoxville, Ryan Clark Byrd of Knoxville, 4 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be friends and family.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 26, 2018 from 6 – 8pm at Weatherford Mortuary. The family will also receive friends on Monday, April 30 from 11am – 12:30pm (CST) at Anglin Funeral Home in Dover, TN. A graveside service will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Indian Mound, TN.
