Bishop Joe Louis Swanson was born April 18, 1937, to Rosa Duella (Mumford) and William Henry Swanson in Athens, GA. He departed this earthly life on Saturday, September 29, 2018. He was the founder and pastor of the Greater Living Epistle House of Yahweh.

He was employed by Citizens Gas and retired after many years of dedicated service. He served his country by enlisting in the United States Marine Corps. on February 14, 1956 and he received and honorable discharge on February 16, 1962.

Surviving are his daughter, Sharon (Rev. Otto) Penn; sisters, Leona McIntire and Alberta Benson all of Indianapolis; two grandchildren, Aaron (Christian) Tyler and Shawn Harris; great-grandchildren, Skyler, Chelsea, Cherise, Cherell, September, Elizabeth, Aaron Jr., Parker and Chasity; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and church family. He was preceded in death by his wife, First Lady Evangelist Clarissa Swanson; daughter, Marcia Tyler and parents, William and Rosa Swanson.
