Bobby Joe Black was born Sept. 21, 1936 in Gadsden, Alabama passed away Tuesday February 26th. Graveside services will be 11: A.M. C.S.T. Thursday February 28th at Cedar Bluff cemetery with Rev.

Melvyn Salter officiating. After graduating from Cedar Bluff High School in 1954, he attended the University of Alabama before joining the Air National Guard. He was stationed in France during the Berlin Crisis of 1961.

Shortly after leaving the Air National Guard, he began working for the United States Postal Service. He worked at the Gadsden Post Office for 31 years before retiring in 1996. He will be remembered for his keen wit, devotion to Alabama football and love of gardening – especially growing tomatoes.

He enjoyed coin collecting, bluegrass music, renovating houses and going to trade day. More than anything, he will be remembered as a wonderful father, a devoted grandfather and a loving son, grandson and nephew who cared deeply for his family. He is survived by his daughter Kristi Black Reed and her husband Craig Reed of Dacula, GA, their children Alexander and Lisa, his daughter Michelle Black of Gadsden, AL, and his brothers James, Gary and David Black.
