Bradley C. Grout June 22, 1960 – March 10, 2019 Share this obituary Sign Guestbook Barre, VT Bradley C. Grout, loving father and grandfather, passed away peacefully at Central Vermont Hospital surrounded by his family and friends on Sunday, March 10, 2019, at the age of 58. Brad was born in Montpelier, VT on June 22, 1960, the son of Janice (Croteau) and the late Charles Grout. He graduated from Montpelier High School in 1978.

Brad later attended New Hampshire Technical College in Berlin, NH and graduated in 1979. In May 1982, Brad married Johanne Bonin at St Monica’s Church and had three children, Jason, Erica and Katelyn. In 1984, Brad started his career with the phone company as an Office technician for Bell Atlantic, later became known as Verizon/Fairpoint in the St. Johnsbury office.

He took great pride in his work, and was often the “go- to guy” to help resolve complex issues until his retirement. He leaves behind many friends. Brad had a deep love for his family and friends.

His devotion to family was evident and unconditional. Anyone who knew Brad, knew he had a big heart. He was generous, selfless and always helping others in need.

Brad was an extraordinary father, grandfather, husband, son, brother, uncle, and friend. Whether in his home in Waterford, VT or his cottage in Wells, ME, Brad enjoyed entertaining, cooking, playing cards (competitively some might say), a game of cribbage and sharing good conversation. Brad had a love for playing and watching sports, especially football.

He enjoyed exploring the country and had a love for history. Throughout his life, Brad enjoyed camping trips, sharing time with family and friends. He also looked forward to his yearly football trips with friends to go see his favorite team, the New York Giants.

In the winter he spent time snowmobiling and devoted time to cooking the annual ham dinners supporting the Waterford Ridge Runners. Gathering at Fisherman’s Catch with the guys the first weekend in May, marked the opening season for his cottage in Wells, ME. It was an exciting time he looked forward to and enjoyed.

Becoming a grandfather 2 1/2 years ago probably brought him the greatest joy in his last years of life. Bradley will be deeply missed by those he leaves behind: his son Jason Grout and partner Latoia Haynes of Methuen, MA, his daughter Katelyn Grout and partner Josh May of Lyndonville, VT, his mother, Janice Halford of Northfield, VT, his sisters: Lori Grout and partner Frank Baraby of Montpelier, VT, Lisa Durkee and husband Rick of Montpelier, VT, step-brother Roger Halford of Williamstown, VT, step-sister Shawna Clement and husband Steve of North Waterboro, ME, step-sister Ena Anthony and husband Mark of Williamstown, VT, step-brother David Halford and wife Annette of Barre, VT, step mother Joyce Grout of Venice, FL. He also leaves behind a nephew, nieces, aunts, many cousins and his beautiful granddaughter Amelia May of Lyndonville, VT, that he loved so very much.

Brad was preceded by his daughter, Erica Grout in October 1985 and his father, Charles Grout in April 2003. A graveside service and celebration of his life will be held on May 6, 2019 at the North Branch Cemetery, Middle, VT. Contributions may be made to Central Vermont Home and Hospice.
