Bruce David Humbert Moon Township, Formerly of Port St. Lucie, Florida[ Bruce David Humbert was born November 20, 1946, in Midland and died peacefully in his home at age 72 on Sunday, January 27, 2019. Bruce was a loving father and grandfather, a wonderful brother, and caring uncle. After graduating from Lincoln High School in Midland, he attended college on a full scholarship.

He began his career as a chemical engineer eventually owning his own company, Lake Plains Energy, an oil and gas drilling firm. True to his adventurous nature, Bruce decided to move into the marketing field, and received his Master’s Degree in Marketing from the University of Pittsburgh. He served in the capacity of Vice-President with many companies including The Weather Channel, Kinkos, and Nike.

Bruce later partnered with his dear friend, Ellen Turner, in a move to Cincinnati to turn around and transform Sara Lee’s Food division as the Senior Vice-President of Insights and Marketing Services. His impact and market success can be seen in stores today with Jimmy Dean Bfast sandwiches, Hillshire sliced meats in tubs, Ball Park Angus hot dogs etc… he was the perfect guy to help everyone understand ‘meat lovers’! !

Bruce loved traveling, visiting Australia for the Olympics and sipping his way through the Kentucky Bourbon tour. His favorite trips were to London, England, for his daughter Megan’s wedding, and later visiting his grandchildren there. He retired to Florida, but recently moved back to Pittsburgh with the desire to be close to his beloved family, especially his daughter Krista, who was his faithful helper through the move and worked lovingly to make her dad feel comfortable in his new home.

His son Rob’s family brought a great amount of joy to his life as well. He had an excitement for life, reading and learning and a passion for the Pittsburgh sports teams. Anyone who knew Bruce knew that he loved new toys and new gadgets and was always up on the latest Apple products.

He enjoyed new restaurants and new places, and still had many plans for much more exploring of Pittsburgh and of the world. Bruce had several books in the works and was going to volunteer with his brother at Animal Friends. His family was thrilled to have him home in Pittsburgh celebrating holidays and special times together again.

Sadly, his time with us was too short. He is survived by his faithful feline companion, Andrew who was by his side until his final breath; his wife, Janelle (Austin) Humbert; daughters, Megan (Jon) Schwartz of Washington, D.C., and Krista Humbert of Emsworth; son, Robert (Sharon) Sedlar of Pittsburgh; and ten wonderful grandchildren. Bruce is also survived by his brother, Glenn (Peggy) Humbert; niece, Maryjane Field; and nephew, Benjamin (Summer) Humbert; as well as his sister, Laura Humbert.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Edith Humbert. At his request there will no viewing. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.

Memorial donations can be made to Animal Friends, 562 Camp Horne Rd. , Pittsburgh, PA 15237. Arrangements by the J&J SPRATT FUNERAL HOME, 1612 Third Ave.
