Bruce’s Obituary Lee, NH – Bruce Dix, 69, of Wadleigh Falls Road, beloved husband and friend to many, passed away on January 8, 2019 in Boston, MA after a brief battle with cancer. Born July 17, 1949 in New York City, NY, he was the son of Sidney and Mathilda (Carmel) Dix. Bruce was brought up in New York, but as a child spent memorable summers at Camp Menatoma in Maine where he felt it established his lifelong ties to the North Country.

After high school he attended CW Post College where he made friendships that extended throughout his life. Then moved to N.H. to finish his education and was a graduate of UNH. While an English major at UNH he found his true love in the ceramic arts department.

This passion for ceramics and his keen eye for design (which he always attributed to his beloved grandfather George Carmel) would last his lifetime. His extreme talent, yet humble approach toward his work, would bring him to the White House and the finest museums in the country…not to be shared with many or spoken about during his career. But most of all, Bruce loved creating beauty for people to enjoy.

Whether, it was a mug or bowl done as a young ceramist, or later a monumental Grecian urn to be part of a fine interior design setting, it only mattered that people drew lasting pleasure from his efforts. His friends and loved ones will always remember him as a man of good character, kind, sensitive, humble, and multi-talented. Whoever he met, he always tried to find a thread of commonality to connect with them and make them feel comfortable…which usually lead to a meaningful and memorable conversation.

While his interest in ancient cultures, love of research and study filled many a day, he also enjoyed tending the land, cooking for friends, music, joking, and sharing… all of which made him interesting and a lot of fun to be with. As a childhood friend said when she learned of Bruce’s passing, “He had the highest integrity, greatest kindness and was so gentle and loving”. He shall be missed.

Bruce was a very talented and gifted ceramic artist who is survived by his wife of 22 years, Sandra (Stewart) Dix of Lee, his brother, Randy Dix of Montana, his uncle, Monroe Carmel of Florida and many other extended family members and cherished friends. Private services will be held at a later date. Please visit www.
