LOWVILLE –Burton Julius “Burt” Halladay, 77, of Route 26, Lowville, passed away Thursday evening, March 28, 2019 at his home under the loving care of his family and Lewis County Hospice. A funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, April 1, 2019 at Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., Lowville. A gathering at the Lewis County Marine Corps League Det.

# 754 (Farney Hall) will immediately follow the funeral service. Any food donations may be taken directly to the Marine Corps League on Monday morning after 8:30 a.m. Spring burial with Military Honors will be in Martinsburg Cemetery. Calling hours will be held from 1-4 p.m. on Monday, April 1, 2019, prior to the service, at the funeral home.

Contributions may be made to Cystic Fibrosis Association, CNY Chapter, 200 Gateway Park Drive, Bldg. C, Syracuse, NY 13212 or Friends of Lewis County Hospice, P.O. Box 266, Lowville, NY 13367. Burt is survived by his beloved wife of 21 years, Sandy; four children and five step-children and their spouses, Colleen and Richard Lanning of New Vienna, Ohio, Debra and John I. Nagy of Lowville, Kathleen White of Melbourne, FL, Scott and Billie Jo Halladay of Croghan, Mark and Judy Pominville, Glenfield, Lori Hirsch ,Croghan, Charlene and Dale Hirschey of Glenfield, Eric and Cynthia Pominville of Lowville, and Renee and Mark Olmstead of Brantigham.

Also surviving are brothers, Charles (Joyce) Halladay, Keith (Betty) Halladay, a brother-in law-Loren Lee, a half- brother James Hulbert; a sister Patricia Halladay Hulbert, many grandchildren and great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He is predeceased by brother, Bernard “Bud” Halladay; a sister and brother-in-law, Jackie and Donald Widrick; a sister, Marilyn Lee; a half- brother, William Hulbert; a brother-in-law, Ronald Hulbert; and a granddaughter, Sydny Ellen Halladay. Burt was born on October 19, 1941 in Sandy Creek, NY, a son of the late Donald K. and Dorothy E. (Brouty) Halladay.

He graduated from Lowville Academy in 1960. He served in the U.S. Army from 1960 to 1963. On April 28, 1962, he married Agnes E. Benware, the marriage later ended in divorce.

On August 30, 1997, he married Sandy Samsa Pominville at their home. Burt worked as an electrician at Lyons Falls Pulp and Paper for 38 years, 1963-2001. Later, he drove truck for Lowville Fuels.

He then worked as an electrician for Demko Electric. In 2004, he became the caretaker at Whitaker Park retiring in 2014. Burt loved high school wrestling.

He wrestled in high school and was a class D champion his junior and senior years. He enjoyed attending high school wrestling matches and tournaments. He loved gardening and yard work.

Burt spent a lot of his time working in their gorgeous yard. He took pride in building and caring for their beautiful home. He enjoyed politics.

He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them. He was a loving parent and grandparent, who spent a lot of meaningful time talking and guiding them. His wisdom and compassionate conversations will always be remembered.
