Mr. Butch Whitesell, 70, of Houston Loop, Taylorsville, passed away June 27, 2018 at Catawba Regional Hospice. Mr. Whitesell was born June 25, 1948 in Greensboro, NC, the son of the late Harvey Whitesell and Frances Moore Whitesell. Butch grew up in Gibsonville, NC.

After graduating from ECU, he taught health and physical education at Jacksonville (NC) Junior High, at Southwest Onslow High School, Bunn High School finally retiring from Forbush High School. He also taught Drivers Education, coached baseball (his 1st love), football and was an Athletic Director. He won a NC State High School 2A Baseball Championship in 1979 at Bunn High School.

After retiring and moving to the lake, he taught Drivers Education in Alexander County and was a Commissioner of Mt. Valley Athletic Conference until his health declined. He loved boating, watching his son coach baseball at Holly Springs High School, and especially spending time with his four grandchildren.

He was treasurer, deacon and active member of Bethlehem Baptist Church. His many friends there and a special Sunday School Class were very important to him. Unfortunately, he won’t get to see the new completed church building that he was so involved with helping finance.

He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Including his parents, he was preceded in death by: a brother, Lynn Whitesell. Those left to cherish his memory include: his wife, Betty Moose Whitesell of the home; three sons, Tony Whitesell of Greensboro, Rod Whitesell and wife, Jess, of Holly Springs, Kelly Whitesell and girlfriend, of Des Moines, IA; four grandchildren, Samuel, Tyler, Jay and Emily Whitesell; a sister, Ellen Coll of Greensboro; a brother-in-law, David Moose and wife, Jolene, of Taylorsville; nieces, Jamie Coll, Meredith Coll-Newson and husband, Chris.

The funeral service will be held at 3:45 p.m., Sunday, July 1, 2018 at Bethlehem Baptist Church. Dr. Wayne Caviness and Dr. Joe Coltrane will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 2:30-3:30 p.m. prior to the service. Pallbearers include: Gary McDonald, Jack Moss, Billy Fox, Steve Sprinkle, Ricky Fox and Steve Wagoner. Honorary pallbearers include: Ken Miller and Bill Howerton.
