BW’s Obituary Bernhardt William (BW) Proft, Jr. passed away on March 11, 2019 at the age of 87. Celebration of life Services will be Saturday, 10:00 a.m., March 16, 2019 at MobleyGroesbeck Funeral Chapel with Reverend Don Tabberer officiating. B.W. will be laid to rest at Woodland memorial Park Cemetery in Sand Springs.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Mobley-Groesbeck Funeral Service of Sand Springs. He was born in Tulsa, OK on July 19, 1931 to Bernhardt William (Ben) Proft, Sr. and Winifred Ruth (nee Miller) Proft. BW grew up in Tulsa and attended Will Rogers High School graduating in 1949.
Attending Tulsa University from 1949 to 1953, BW majored in engineering and was an active member of the band and ROTC. Upon graduation, BWwas commissioned as an officer in the US Air Force and served active duty until 1957. He rose to the rank of Captain before being honorably discharged from the Air Force Reserve in 1967.
BW then began working as a professional engineer at Sheffield (Armco, Gerdau) Steel in Sand Springs and it was there he met the love of his life, Beverly Bryson. They married in 1960 and moved to Sand Springs where he continued working at the steel mill, retiring after 43 years. He was an active member of the Sand Springs First United Methodist Church and he also was a lifetime member of the Sand Springs Round Up Club and participated in the Sandite Band Boosters where he supported the activities of his two daughters.
BW’s love of music continued through his life and he enjoyed playing his trombone as a member of the Tulsa Community College Band and the locally famous band, The Sandite Sound. He was a past member of the Sand Springs Lions and in his later years, was a member of the Bald Eagles Remote Control Plane club, building and flying his own aircraft. BW was also a lifetime member of the Sand Springs Sportsman’s Club and a member of the Will Rogers HS 49er’s.
BW was a man of many talents. If he saw something that needed to be done, he figured out a way to do it. BW will be missed by many including his daughters Cecilia (Cece) Cink and husband James Cink of Wake Forest, NC; Pam and husband Robert Marrs of Sand Springs; granddaughter Tracey Marrs and great-granddaughter Corby of Sand Springs; grandson Chris (CJ) Cink of Stillwater and granddaughter Catelyn Cink of Wake Forest, NC.
BW was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly Proft. Online condolences may be left for the family at www. mogro.
