Carl Holtz Sax, passed away peacefully at his home on June 14, 2018. Born October 7, 1968 to Rosemarie (Hrvatin) and George Sax, Carl was raised in the Denver area and attended Green Mountain High School. Carl entered the US Army on October 11, 1988.

He was stationed at Fort Drum, NY and was in the 10th Mountain Division. He served in many different theaters including Somalia, Haiti, Panama and Desert Storm and achieved the rank of Sergeant. Carl’s life and direction was defined by his military service.

He considered it an honor to have served his country. The strong bond he felt with his fellow soldiers helped him through some of the most difficult times of his life. As a kennel owner and professional dog trainer, animals always came first.

Carl was fiercely dedicated to his four-footed charges. In training dogs, he often said that the most valuable tool was six inches of duct tape for all the humans. He was an expert gundog trainer and NSTRA competitor with innumerable awards in field trial competitions.

It was 2004 when during League Trap Shooting at Golden Gun Club that Carl met Janis Rahn and on June 12, 2005 they were married at Kiowa Creek Gun Club. Carl is survived by his wife, Janis; his mother, Rosemarie Kelley; his sister, Sonja Sax; a step-brother, Jeffrey; and aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
