Carlo Olimpio Zippi, The Barber, of Jeannette, died Sunday, June 17, 2018 at the age of 88. He was born February 16, 1930, in Crabtree, a son of the late Simplicio and Luisa Crochetti Zippi from Sant’ Omero, Italy. He was the proprietor of Zippi’s Barber Shop in Greensburg, barbering for 51 years.

He also served as a Sergeant in the Army Korean Conflict as a tank operator. He was a member of the Greensburg American Legion Post 981 and the Amvets. Carlo enjoyed playing baseball and football, he played for the Crabtree “Blue Devils” football team and played catcher on the Crabtree semi-pro baseball team in the early to mid 1950’s.

After serving in Korea, Carlo worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad. Later he suggested to a few friends from Crabtree that they go to barber school in Pittsburgh. In his first shop a haircut was $0.

25. A master story teller, Zippi would recall many historical events from Greensburg and especially his beloved Crabtree, PA. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Pierre, Josephine, Sam Carmen, Vittorio, baby Lautina and baby Carlo; two grandchildren, Domenic and Anna Werner and his son in law, Michael Werner.

He is survived by his two children, Carlo U. Zippi (SueAnn) and Michele ‘Shelly’ Zippi Werner, all of Jeannette; two granddaughters, Angelina Zippi Robinson (David) and Serafina Zippi; godchild Marisa Zippi Keenan; Cousins Omero and AnnaMarie Zippi of Philadelphia; several nieces and nephews and his dog buddy, Levi. Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate the life of Zippi, Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Clement L. Pantalone Funeral Home, Inc. 409 W. Pittsburgh Street, Greensburg, PA 15601, (724) 837-0020. Parting prayers will be held in the funeral home Thursday at 9:15 a.m., followed by a funeral Mass to be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. in the St. Bartholomew Church, Crabtree with Fr.

Justin Matro, OSB, celebrating. Interment with Military Honors will follow in Calvary Hill Cemetery, Crabtree. Zippi’s family has entrusted his care to the Pantalone Funeral Home, Inc., Greensburg.
