Fleckenstein, 75, of Dubuque, and formerly of East Dubuque, passed away Thursday, January 24, 2019 at Mercy Medical Center. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday, January 28, at St. Anthony Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, January 27, at Hoffmann Schneider & Kitchen Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 3860 Asbury Rd, Dubuque, where there will be a prayer service. Complete arrangements are pending. Carol was born July 19, 1943, the daughter of Oswald “Ozzie” and Lillian (Welter) Roth.

She was employed at Loras College in housekeeping for over 20 years. Carol devoted her life to hard work and raising three children on her own, which she found great joy in. She enjoyed playing cards, dice, and birdwatching (cardinals were her favorite).

Carol loved to have fun, and enjoyed traveling with friends to Las Vegas, Branson, Mount Rushmore, and many other places. She could always be counted on for lunch dates with family and friends. Carol is survived by two children, Randy Fleckenstein of Dubuque, and Michael (Sandra) Fleckenstein of Mount Vernon, IA; her son in law, Eric Bakken of Dubuque; her grandchildren, Katlyn, Brett, and Lilianna, Nicholas and Grace, and Marie and Ozzie; and two great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her daughter, Tracy Sue Fleckenstein Bakken. Memorials may be made to the family for later donation. The family would like to thank all those who did so much to help and support Carol with day to day living throughout her illness.
