CAROL’s Obituary CAROL A. SHIFFLETT STAUNTON, VA… Carol Lee (Armstrong) Shifflett, beloved wife of Wesley Richard (Rick) Shifflett, Jr. entered into Heaven on January 22, 2019 in Charlottesville, surrounded by her family. Carol was born on March 18, 1957, the daughter of the late Anna Louise and Franklin L. Armstrong. She was a graduate of Robert E. Lee High School and retired from the Department of Corrections.

Carol’s passion, besides caring for her family, was her love of animals. She was an advocate for any cat or dog that needed food and care. She was an avid reader.

In addition to her husband, whom she married December 2, 1978, she is survived by her loving two sons, Brandon Wesley and Adam Richard Shifflett; two sisters, Beb Armstrong Powers of Lynchburg and Barbara Armstrong McCray of Arbor Hill; a brother, Bill Armstrong of Staunton; a sister-in-law, Stephanie Lett and husband, Michael; three nieces, Misty McCray-Fletcher (Robert), Katie Powers (Jared) and Julie Oakey; five nephews, Steve McCray (Karman), Dan Powers (Bri), Chase Powers (Morgan), Derek Campbell, and Jared Lett; three great nieces, Victoria Fletcher, Savanna McCray and Sophie Powers; five great nephews, Robbie Fletcher, Jr., Cole Fletcher, Tanner McCray, Paxton Powers, and Benjamin Oakey; and her fur babies, Zoey, Junior, and Hucklebuck. She was preceded in death by her sister, June Armstrong Campbell; and a brother-in-law, Eddie McCray. A Celebration of Life so loved will be held Saturday, January 26, 2019, at 2 p.m. at Southside Church of God, 35 First Street, Staunton, VA , behind Staunton DMV, by Pastor Phillip Morgan.

Carol was a gentle, sweet, beautiful lady who will be so greatly missed. We all are better people for having had Carol in our lives. Her sons called her “Their Angel”.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Augusta Regional S.P.C.A. , P.O. Box 2014, Staunton, VA 24402 or to any animal shelter. Henry Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
