Carolee Allen Wilson completed her earthly mission with honor on Monday, July 2nd, 2018. Born on September 17, 1938 to Merlin D and Mildred A Allen, Carolee grew up in Draper, Utah. After graduating from Jordan High, she married and started her family.
Her children include Careen (Craig) Densley, John (Pollyanna) Candalot, Shari (Bill) Hair, Jason (Carrie) Wilson and of course, her youngest dog/child, Shadow. Carolee married Gene G. Wilson on June 30, 1969. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on February 3, 1977.
Carolee worked as a teacher’s aid for various schools but spent the majority of her career at Indian Hills Middle School where she made many friends. She enjoyed camping with her family including 9 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. She always looked forward to the family summer campouts mostly spent in the beautiful Uinta mountains.
Carolee was the consummate gardener. If she wasn’t in the house attending to the clean and tidy home she kept, you could find her outside beautifying the yard. She had the talent and knowledge of knowing what to plant and where it could be showcased.
Her yard was always immaculate and stood out in the neighborhood. If you ask Gene, the only time Carolee put her home and yard aside was when she was serving others or when she could be with family. That family included the most spoiled dog in the world, Shadow.
Gene and Carolee served a mission for the LDS Church in Washington DC. While the mission was a highlight of her life, her final years serving as a Member and Leadership Services (MLS) missionary demonstrated the love, commitment and service that she had for her stake members and her Savior. Part way into the 18 month assignment Carolee contracted cancer.
It would have been easy at this point to set aside the mission to focus on her health. Instead, Gene and Carolee asked to extend the mission another 6 months. She and Gene continued their mission even while the cancer ravaged her weary body.
“Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends”. (John 15:13) Carolee will be remembered for the care and devotion she showed to the young missionaries serving in the area. They were “her boys” whom she loved as deeply as her own children.
Carolee will always be remembered for her acts of service. When her daughter, Shari endured years of debilitating diabetes, she selflessly cared for Shari until the disease ended her life. Carolee continued to seek out the weary and down trodden to provide a meal or an act of kindness where needed.
Always on the lookout for an opportunity to serve will be her defining legacy. She was preceded in death by her daughter Shari and her brothers, Mike and Dennis Allen. Services will be at 11:00 AM on July 9th at the chapel located at 949 E. 10600 S., Sandy, Utah.
Friends can meet one hour prior to the services. A viewing will be held Sunday, July 8th at Anderson and Goff Mortuary, 11859 S. 700 E in Draper from 6-8 PM.
