A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 A.M. Thursday at St. Christine Church, for Carroll “C.D.” Smith, 85 of Boardman, who passed away peacefully at home Sunday morning with his loving family by his side. Carroll was born December 14, 1932 in Youngstown, a son of William and Grace Eyster Smith. He was a 1951 graduate of Boardman High School.

Carroll started his career at General Extrusions and then went to work at Lake Park Tool and Machine. In 1976 he founded BV Manufacturing. He was a member of St. Christine Church and took great pride in helping build the church.

Carroll was an avid golfer and loved spending time with his family. He was a civic minded person, who belonged to the Saxon Club, Bears Club and the Elks Lodge in Salem. Carroll proudly served as a crew chief in the Air Force, being stationed in Guam and Alaska.

Along with his loving wife the former Marilynn Moran, whom he married May 14, 1955, he leaves to cherish his memory, his children Christine (Raymond) DiGaetano of Clearwater, Florida, Gary (Kathy) Smith of Pittsburgh, Scott (Lori Tylinski) Smith of Pittsburgh, Marnie (Joseph) Luongo of Charleston, S.C. and Megan (Robert) Beam of Boardman; brothers Howard Smith, Donald Smith and John Smith; sister Barbara Carothers; grandchildren, Lauren Wood, Ryan DiGaetano, Kristen Vergallito, Mallory Adams, Carroll Smith, Garrett Smith, Madison Smith, Mara Luongo, Michael Luongo, Frank Loungo and Brendan Beam and six great grandchildren. Memorial tributes may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis Tenn. Besides his parents, Carroll is preceded in death by sisters Wilma Smith, Annabelle Yeaney and Helen Turnbull, and brothers William Smith and Thomas Smith.
