On March 4, 2019 Carroll Melford Roney walked into the arms of his Heavenly Father hearing the words…”. Welcome Home, Well done my good and faithful servant”. His 98 years of life on this earth were lived to the fullest.
Carroll was born in 1920 in Lousiville, Kentucky in the “roaring 20’s” era which contributed to his love for Big Band and Swing music. His love for dance and music would keep him young at heart. As a young boy Carroll loved hand balancing and gymnastics and passed that on to his middle daughter Patricia.
Carroll began working at an early age to support his family and would tell many stories of his escapades working in the Dairy with his friends. He got his first “real job” in 1941 with Henry Vogt Machine Company. He worked for Henry Vogt Machine Company from 1941-1949 as an Engineering Draftsman before he and his family moved west.
During this time Carroll took a leave of absence to join the military. He enlisted in the Army Air Corp on February 12, 1944. Although very excited to serve his country the war ended before he was able to fly his first mission.
Carroll met his beautiful wife Justine while on a blind date with her best friend and later married her on October 15, 1939. They were married 75 years before she passed away in 2014. Carroll was a member of the Masons Shawnee Lodge No.
830. Lousiville, KY and recently celebrated his 75th year of service with the Brothers at the Lewisville Lodge No. 201.
The couple moved west in 1949 due to health reasons for his middle daughter. Carroll went to work for El Paso Natural Gas Company originally in Jal, New Mexico and finally transferred to El Paso, TX in 1955 where he stayed the rest of his career. He retired with the company on May 1, 1982.
He was a Senior Systems Analyst and a Senior Engineer. Anyone that knows Carroll could see the detail and precision in which he organized his entire life. If he told you a story you would listen to every last detail in perfect order.
He was a great joke teller and could remember every punch line even some a bit “off color”. Carroll served as Chairman of the Board at Grace United Methodist Church in El Paso, TX and he and Justine were both very active in the life of the church. His faith in God carried him through the difficult times.
Carroll and Justine moved to Cedar Creek Lake in 1982 where he designed and built his “dream home”. He loved the lake life and enjoyed having friends and family come to visit. He showed off his amazing garden that he designed to perfection and loved grilling fajitas on the deck.
Later as their health needs became greater Carroll and Justine moved to the Dallas area to be closer to their daughter. They lived at The Remington of Valley Ranch Independent Living and later at Rosewood Assisted Living and Memory Care in Flower Mound. After Justine’s death, Carroll moved to The Oaks of Flower Mound Assisted Living and Memory Care.
