CROGHAN/UTICA – Cassia Lynn Olmstead, 8, of Utica, formerly of Croghan, passed away Monday afternoon, July 16, 2018 at Golisano Children’s Hospital, Syracuse, surrounded by her loving family. Calling hours are from 1 – 3 and 6 – 8 p.m. on Thursday, July 19, 2018 at the Naumburg Mennonite Church. Burial will be in the Naumburg Mennonite Cemetery on Friday July 20, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. A memorial service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 20, 2018 at Naumburg Mennonite Church with Titus Mast, officiating.

In addition to flowers, please consider a bouquet of balloons, as they were very special to Cassia. Contributions may be made to Golisano Children’s Hospital 1 Children’s Circle, Syracuse, NY 13210. She is survived by her parents Nathan and Denise; her 6 siblings, Abigail Kay, Isaiah David, Clay Nathan, Trenton Richard, Jeremiah Christian, and Bethany Lou Olmstead; maternal grandparents, David and Judy Hoover of Washington Boro, PA; paternal grandparents, Richard and Geraldine Olmstead of Croghan; very special aunts and uncles, Keith and Jenna Hoover, Ryan and Teal Hoover, Bryan and Julene Harnish, Glenn and Karen Olmstead, DeWitt and Nicole Olmstead, Jeffery and Jennifer Olmstead; maternal great grandmother, Esta Lois Smoker; paternal great grandparents, Glenn and Patricia Olmstead; several great aunts and great uncles, and numerous special cousins.

She is predeceased by her maternal great grandparents, Alvin Smoker, Malvin and Ida Hoover; paternal great grandparents, Leo and Irene Zehr. Cassia was born August 19, 2009 in Lowville, a daughter of Nathan Lynn and Denise Kay Hoover Olmstead. She was home schooled and enjoyed coloring, painting, crafts, puzzles, ballet, and her “snuggies” (stuffed animals).

She was active in Sunday school at Naumburg Mennonite Church and Iglesia Hispana Luz y Vida, New Bremen, before moving to Utica in April of 2017 with her family. After moving with her family, Cassia was active in Sunday school in the Church of Christ in Utica. Cassia loved making and eating pizza, planting and cutting flowers, as well as singing, reading the bible, family devotions, and listening to music.

She admired anything that glittered, necklaces, playing house, and all things girly. She was interested in projects, reading, minecraft, legos, and dolls. Most of all Cassia enjoyed spending time with her siblings, cousins, and friends.
