Catherine “Kay” Farr Feeny March 10, 1920 ~ December 6, 2018 Catherine “Kay” Farr Feeny passed away on December 6, 2018 at the age of 98. She was born in Ogden, Utah, to Lawrence and Esther Shurtliff Farr on March 10, 1920. She attended Ogden Schools and graduated from Ogden High School in the first graduating class of 1938.
She attended Weber State Junior College for two years and graduated in 1940. She then attended Utah State University, graduating in 1942 with a Bachelor of Science Degree and teaching certificate in Secondary Education. While there she affiliated with Chi Omega.
She taught First Grade at Polk School for several years, after which she worked at Bushnell General Hospital as an Army Nurses’ Aide until the end of World War II and Bushnell was closed. She worked for Eastman Kodak Company in San Francisco for a few months before returning the airline’s office in the Ben Lomond Hotel Lobby. On July 21, 1947 she married Dr. Thomas M. Feeny after he returned from Army service in the South Pacific area and the Army of Occupation in Japan.
After he finished his Obstetrics and Gynecology residency in Salt Lake and Ogden, he began practicing medicine in Ogden where they made their home together for the next sixty years until the death of Dr. Feeny on July 9, 2007. They were the parents of five children: Thomas L. Feeny, Craig F. (Shannon) Feeny, Catherine Feeny Labatte, Julie J. Feeny (Larry) Huras, and Scott M (Elaine) Feeny, and ten grandchildren: Jessica M. Labatte (Eric May), Kevin T. Labatte, Brett R. (Erin) Huras, Stephanie C. Huras, Caitlin M. Feeny (Brad Wolfe), Ryan S. Huras, Sarah M. Feeny, Travis S. Feeny, Heather K. Feeny, and Sean T. Feeny; and one great-grandson, Avery C. May. She was a lifelong active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in various organizations in the church, such as Primary President, organist for the Primary, the M.I.A., the Relief Society pianist as well as the chorister, and had been a Sunday School and Visiting Teacher.
She was a member and served as Captain of Camp Waterfall of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers, and had served as President of the Board of Weber South Company, D.U.P. She served many years as Chairman of Legislative District 10 in Weber County and Vice-President of the Utah State Republican Women for six years. She enjoyed membership in many women’s groups and served as President of Child Culture Club, Coronet Club, Altruist Club, Chareya Club, Aglaia Club, Weber County Heritage Foundation, Weber County Women’s Legislative Council, Gold Spike Chapter D.A.R., Weber County Medical Auxiliary, Utah State Medical Auxiliary, and also served as Weber Regional Chairman of both legislation and AMAERF Committees of the National A.M.A. Auxiliary.
She was a Sustaining member of the Junior League of Ogden, and a member of the Ogden Golf and Country Club. She enjoyed membership in several bowling leagues and golf teams during her lifetime. She and her husband were members of an Ogden group of skiers who traveled yearly for 28 years to ski destinations including Aspen, Colorado and Austria.
She was appointed to the Mayor’s committee for the Sesquicentennial of Ogden City, helping to plan the celebration activities for that year (2001-2002). She and her husband attended the Symphony and Ballet holding season tickets most of their lives. They supported the Weber State University’s basketball team with season tickets for years.
They traveled to France and Switzerland many times, and she returned to Weber State for two years while in her sixties to study French to be more proficient in the language while visiting there. She always enjoyed spending time at the family’s summer home in South Fork Canyon with family and friends. She considered her children to be the greatest accomplishment in her life and was devoted to them.
During her life, besides her church and club organization participation, she enjoyed swimming, golfing, skiing, bowling, singing, playing the piano, ballroom dancing, playing bridge, traveling, and just being alive. She is survived by four children, 10 grandchildren, her great-grandchild, and many dearly loved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her son Craig F. Feeny, her husband, her sister Elaine F. Corbett, her brother Lewis L. Farr, her sisters-in-law, Margaret F. Pell, Jeanne F. Killingsworth, Marilyn H. Farr, and her brothers-in-law, Chelton S. Feeny and Patrick J. Feeny.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 10, 2018 at 11 a.m. at the Waterfall Canyon Ward, 3254 Polk, Ogden. Friends may visit with family on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. and Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.
Interment, Ogden City Cemetery.
