“Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me” Psalms 23:4 Cecelia Harris Thornton departed this life on Sunday, July 8, 2018 at St. Luke’s Hospice in Kansas City, Missouri surrounded by family and friends. Aunt Cecelia, as she was more affectionately known, was the third child born to the union of Florestine (Zet) Harris and Andrew Harris, in Napoleonville, Louisiana on July 28, 1923. Cecelia accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized by her uncle, the late Reverend Freddie E. Southall at St. Charles Baptist Church in Paincourtville, Louisiana.

She was educated in the public-school system of Assumption Parish, graduating from Lowery Training High School in Donaldsonville, Louisiana. Aunt Cecelia also attended Leland College in Baker, Louisiana. Cecelia met the love of her life, Elmer Thornton, while he was serving in the military at Camp Leroy Johnson Army Base in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Elmer and Cecelia were married here in Kansas City, Missouri in 1946 and enjoyed seventy-three years of matrimonial bliss. Aunt Cecelia had been a loving and faithful member of Paseo Baptist Church since 1946. She served faithfully in the Lois Mission Circle, Loving Caring Sharing Group, in the Cathedral Choir and as a Vacation Bible School Teacher.

Cecelia retired from Sears Roebuck & Company after forty years of service. She was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Florestine Harris, a brother, George Harris and a sister, Almetta Bias. Cecelia Harris Thornton leaves to cherish her memories her husband, Elmer; a sister, Mable Harris Thomas; nephews, Cardell A. Thomas, Esq.

, and Conrad Bias (Karen); nieces, Patricia Poole and Sandra Wilson; and a host of other relatives and friends.
