Charles Leroy Akers, 81, of Homer City, passed away Wednesday, May 22, 2019 while at Allegheny General Hospital. The son of Floyd William and Mary (Sorbin) Akers, he was born May 16, 1938 in Indiana, PA. Charles was employed by R&P Coal Company for over 30 years.

He was a member of the United Mine Workers of America. He enjoyed bowling, gardening, mowing, and going to the casino. He loved going to flea markets especially when he found a good deal.

Surviving is his wife, Janet (Blatt); children, Jennifer Kinter and her husband, Thomas and Chad Akers and his wife, Alicia; daughter-in-law, Lisa Akers; grandchildren, Emily Sue Akers, Anthony Akers, and Natalee Akers; sisters, Elizabeth “Betty” Gallo and her husband, Jim and Maryann Akers; and numerous nieces and nephews. Charles was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Archie L. Akers. A memorial service will be conducted on Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Luther Chapel Lutheran Church, Coral, PA with Pastors Tedd Cogar and Sarah Aasheim, officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to VNA Family Hospice, 850 Hospital Road, Suite 3000, Indiana, PA 15701. The John A. Lefdahl Funeral Home is assisting with funeral arrangements.
