Charles Chark Lau Wong, 82, of Salt Lake City, UT, passed away on Friday, May 25, 2018 at 7:04p.m., succumbing to liver cancer. “Charlie” as he is known to many was born in 1935 in Macau. He was married for 51 years to Helen Wong, who predeceased him two years ago.

Together, they forged a new life coming to the United States in the 70’s. Charlie journeyed by himself first to get settled and start his own tailoring business before sending for his wife and three daughters. He was quite a stylishly dressed man about town when he was young.

Towards the latter part of his life, he fancied a gentleman’s cap most days or his beloved U of U cap. He wasn’t famous in a celebrity sense but he was definitely well known by all who knew him through his work and his infectious sense of humor. For the last 10 years we have come to enjoy and even rely on Charlie’s Facebook posts.

Often wishing celebrities Best Wishes on their birthdays, what he was having for breakfast or the occasional commentary. It was definitely an event to see what his posts will be every morning. Those will be sorely missed… He acquired a reputation of being the “go to” guy for all branches of the military.

They all came from near and far to get their uniforms altered and tailored. Charlie loved this country and all that it stood for. He named his company United Tailors with the American Eagle and stars all around it as his logo and even lived on American Avenue at one time.

He was grateful for the opportunity this country had afforded him and his family and was proud to be its citizen. We will remember all that he had given and sacrificed for his family and hope he felt the love and admiration that surrounded him for all his days. He is survived by his three daughters, Amy Terry (Lee Terry-Utah), Becky Brinkerhoff (Kurt Brinkerhoff-Colorado) and Cindy Miller (Stephan Miller-Oregon), his grandchildren, Alexa Murdock (Riley Murdock-Utah), Zane Pace (Chrissy Pace-Idaho), Julia Miller, LCP Jared Brinkerhoff (Sophia Brinkerhoff-Japan) and Evan Brinkerhoff.
