Charles Donald George, age 86, of Knox, passed away late Thursday evening, October 11, 2018 at his home following a lengthy illness. Born November 30, 1931 in Sligo, he was a son of the late Homer B. and Ethel Jenny Reed George. He was a Staff SGT E-6 with the United States Army, serving from 1952 through 1954 during the Korean Conflict.

Don married the former Mildred Greenawalt on July 22, 1960 and she survives. He worked at Boiler Makers, Blauser’s Plumbing and Heating and retired from the Quaker State Sterling Oil Division as a diesel mechanic. Don was a member of the Knox Volunteer Fire Company for 70 years and served in all elected offices except for chief.

He was a past president of the Clarion County Fire Police and was a member of the Berlin-Bowser American Legion Post #720 of Knox for 65 years. Survivors include his wife, Mildred; one daughter, Kay Milford and her husband, Larry, of Knox; three grandchildren: Jack Allmendinger and wife, Denise, of Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina; Michele Allmendinger of Knox and Sheila Allio of Belleville; four great grandchildren and seven great great grandchildren. Don is also survived by a sister, Shirley Maxine Coast of Arizona; a brother, Frances “Bud” George of Knox and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Russell Scott Allmendinger; three sisters: Thelma, Evelyn and Dorothy and two brothers, Harold and Allen. A private service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, October 15, 2018 at the William N. Rupert Mortuary, Inc., 430 Mendenhall Avenue, Knox with Reverend Randy Evans, Clarion-Forest VNA Hospice Chaplain officiating. Military honors will be accorded by the Berlin-Bowser Post #720 of Knox to start the service.
