Charles Elias Badway, Jr. of Cheshire Drive, Cranston passed away on October 27 at Rhode Island Hospital as a result of injuries sustained in a recent fall. He was born in Providence on April 10, 1941, son of the late Charles and Mary Badway (Joseph), oldest brother of Barbara and husband George of Sydney, Australia; Bob and wife Cindy of Scituate; and Tom and wife Leslie of Mashpee, Massachusetts. A graduate of the Blessed Sacrament School and LaSalle Academy (1959), Charles attended the University of Rhode Island School of Pharmacy and served as a Pharmacy Technician in the US Army.

His tour of duty in France enabled him to travel throughout Europe. Upon honorable completion of his military service, he accepted a position with the US Postal Service, embarking on a career spanning over three decades. Charles, known as Junior to family and those who knew him best, took great pride in attention to detail no matter the task before him.

He was a family man, maintaining close relationships with siblings, their children and grandchildren. To his seven nieces and nephews (Chris, Andrew, Josh, Jeannine, Matthew, Alison, and Nicole), he was their Uncle Charlie, the one who was their friend, the one who encouraged them to always do the right thing, the one who was their third parent. To his eight great nieces and great nephews (Bobby, Kate, Drew, Hazel, Loretta, George, Lana, and Georgina), whether residing near or far, he was a legend who remembered their birthdays, and proudly displayed their pictures throughout his home.

Charles especially cherished his grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins and their children, and friends in Rhode Island, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, California and Australia. His many skills included the baking of delectable cakes, pies, and traditional Lebanese and Middle Eastern fare, most notably kibbeh. His abilities in interior painting and wallpaper hanging rivaled those of professionals.

Charles’ funeral arrangements are being managed by Nardolillo Funeral Home, Cranston. Calling hours are Thursday, November 1, 6 PM – 8PM. A funeral Mass will follow on Friday at 10 AM at the St. George Maronite Catholic Church, Cranston St., Cranston.

Burial will be at the St. Ann Cemetery. Memorial donations to St. George Maronite Catholic Church are most appreciated.
