Charles Merritt Kemberling, Jr. Charles Merritt Kemberling, Jr., age 57, of Severn, MD, and formerly of Mechanicsburg, passed away peacefully while in the care of his brother and sister-in-law at their home on Saturday, May 26, 2018, after a two-year long battle with acute myeloid leukemia (AML). Charles was born on Tuesday, December 29, 1959 in Harrisburg to Thelma (Gibbons) Kemberling and the late Charles Merritt Kemberling, Sr. In addition to his father, who passed on January 20, 2018, Charles is preceded in death by his sister, Patricia Blazer. Charles’s survivors include his brother, Terry Kemberling and his wife, Laura, of New Cumberland; and his mother, Thelma Kemberling of Carlisle.

Charles graduated from Cumberland Valley High School as part of the class of 1977 and from Ithaca University in 1981 with a Bachelor of Arts. He worked for Homestead Gardens in Davidsonville, MD as an annual and greenhouse buyer. Charles loved his job and he found a wonderful extended family there.

He was a lifelong member of the Christian faith. Charles’s family will be remembering his life privately. Scattering will be at the family’s convenience.

Cremation was private. The family sends their most heartfelt thanks to Jennie and everyone at Asana Hospice who so lovingly cared for Charles during his illness. Contributions in celebration of Charles’s life can be made to Asana Hospice and Palliative Care, 4813 Jonestown Road, Suite 201, Harrisburg, PA 17109.
