Obituary for Charles Spencer Givens Charles Spencer Givens (affectionately called Spencer) was born January 11, 1943 in Richmond, Indiana to the union of Charles Moses and Anna Katherine Givens. During his youth, Spencer was well-known in his neighborhood as a dependable and hard working young man. He delivered newspapers, mowed lawns, helped put up hay and often ran errands for older neighbors.

Spencer received his early education from the Richmond Community Schools, graduating from Richmond High School in 1961. An athlete and a scholar, Spencer played basketball, football, and was a champion shot-puter on the track team. After high school, he attended Tennessee State University and Ball State University.

Tennessee Sate is where he Hele M. Young during freshman week. This chance meeting was the beginning of a wonderful lifelong partnership. Spencer and Helen were united in marriage on July 8, 1967 by Elder Isaac King Jr. (Bishop) at Pentecostal Temple Church of God in Christ.

After many years watching Helen live a holy and sanctified life, Spencer accepted the Lord in 2008 nd took membership with Pentecostal Temple. He participated in Sunday School and First Steps Class. Spencer spent many years working for Ford Motor Company Wayne Assembly Plant before embarking upon a career as an officer for the City of Inkster Police Department.

He became a respected member of the police force and the Community, working as a Detective and a Sergeant. After 25 years of service, Spencer retired from the force in 2003 to spend time focusing on his many hobbies- bowling, fishing, deer hunting, reading and playing cards. On Sunday June 24, 2018, Spencer departed this life at Garden City Hospital surrounded by his family.

He preceded in death by his parents Charles Moses and Anna Katherine Givens. He leaves to cherish his memory: Wife of 50 years and 350 days, Helen M. Givens; two daughters: Allison (Stephen) Roberts and Catherine Givens of Nashville, TN; two sons: Charles (Yvette) Givens of Ridgeland, MS and James (fiancé Jenyne) Givens. Grandchildren: Maurice, Monique, (Shanee), James e., Chanel, Mychael, Kennedi, Makayla, Christopher.

Six Great Grandchildren; two sisters; Marilyn Givens and Diane Givens of Richmond, Indiana; One sister-in-law; Ceceila (Marvin) James of Nashville, TN, one aunt: Malinda Jo-An Comer of Richmond, IN; three aunt-in-law: Lillian Harding, Helen Young of Nashville, TN and Jean Young of Noreen, TN; one uncle-in-law; Robert Young og Noreen, TN. Godson: Pastor Bruce (Davena) Johnson and a host of relatives and friends. Special acknowledgment of the following crews: Rosewood ST.
