Obituary of Charles Brown, Jr. Abbot- Playing in a field of daisies, this is where Dad always pictured his son, Stephen, after losing him 50 years ago. Charles w. Brown, Jr., 75, passed away at his home Sunday, July 8, 2018. Charlie Brown, as he was known to most, was born November 15, 1942, in Bath, the 3rd of 11 children to Charles W. Sr. and Ellen E. (Tompkins) Brown.

He married his sweetheart of 55 years, Katherine (Hyland) in October 1962 and they had four children. Dad was well known for spinning tunes that would get everyone dancing and for just loving to sit around and visit. No matter how long you stayed for a visit, he would say, “come back when you can stay longer”.

He enjoyed camp visits at Lake Hebron the best and on most weekends, rain, sun, or blizzard you would find them up and ready for a visit. Dad was employed for over 35 years at the Piel Farm raising Katahdin Hair Sheep. He was an honorary member of the Katahdin Hair Sheep International Organization, and he was instrumental in getting the organization off the ground.

Our Dad though was so much more than that; he was always there to listen and advise, or just to talk. He enjoyed his friends and family so much and truly appreciated the simple things in life. Never was he too busy on his cell phone to be available.

When he was with you, he was truly with you, a quality so rare today. In addition to his wife of 55 years, Katherine, he is survived by three children, Charles Brown IV and his wife, Alisha of Onawa, Jennifer Lynds and her husband, Howard, of Cornville, and James Brown and his wife, Sheena, of Abbot; eight grandchildren, Charles Brown V, Leah Gilbert and her fiancé, Keith, Samantha Brown, Kenny Hyland, Kylie Brown, Spencer Lynds, Rachyl Nelson, and Steven Nelson; nine great-grandchildren; six sisters, Carolyn Amos, Margaret Houlihan, Judy Judkins, Gina Reed and her husband, Mike, Debbie Saucier and her husband, Rick, and Alisa Adams and her husband, Roger; many special friends including, Tim and Julie Anderson, Ronnie and Dolly Vainio, and Bob and Dolly Harris; and several nieces and nephews. Dad was predeceased by his son, Stephen Brown; brother, David Brown; sisters, Becky Austin, Rachel Ulman, and Sue Marshall; and son-in-law, Peter Nelson.

Dad once told us after a tragedy in our life that the sun would come up tomorrow; simple, but so true. Although it doesn’t seem as bright anymore to those who remain, it will in the days to come. It is our wish and hope that you have found that field of daisies and peace that you so deserve.

Family and friends are invited to call 5-7PM Tuesday July 10, 2018, at the Lary Funeral Home, 21 Oak Street, Guilford. A graveside funeral service will be held 2PM Wednesday, July 11, 2018, at the family lot in the Village Cemetery, Abbot, with Pastor Phil McGlauflin officiating. Arrangements are in the care of the Lary Funeral Home.
