Funeral services for Charles Leo ( Charlie) Benson, age 92, of Rising Star, Texas will be held 2:00 PM Monday, February 18, 2019 at the First Baptist Church in Rising Star. Texas. Interment will follow in the Rising Star Cemetery under the direction of the Heartland Funeral Home of Early.

Charlie was born on October 26, 1926 at Byrd’s Store in Brown County, Texas to Virgil Damon and Addie Mae Johnson Benson. On May 3, 1963 he married Mabel Earlene Wood in Odessa, Texas and she preceded him in death. Charlie had worked in the oil fields and had volunteered for Rising Star Fire Department in the 1970’s.

He enjoyed raising honey bees and many referred to him as the “Bee Man”. He also enjoyed fishing, coon hunting and his horses. Survivors include his daughters Linda Thomas of Rising Star, Texas Glenda Wilson of Rising Star, Dixie Renz of Montalba, Texas, Susan Long of Rising Star and Sarah Adams of Eastland, Texas; step sons Kenneth Spencer, Bobby Riggs and Alvin Spenser; one sister Lorene Clark of Buchanan Dam, Texas; twelve grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, step sons Billy, James and Jerry Spencer and by numerous siblings. To send flowers or a memorial gift to the family of Charlie Benson please visit our Sympathy Store.
