Charlotte Marie Land January 07, 1933 – January 05, 2019 Share this obituary Local Florists Send Sympathy Gifts View/Sign Guest Book| Send Sympathy Card Charlotte Marie Land, 85, of Port Angeles, Washington and formerly of Fairbank, Iowa, passed away suddenly on Saturday morning, January 5, 2019 at the St Luke’s Elmore County Hospital in Mountain Home, Idaho. Her daughter Diana was with her. She was doing one of her favorite activities.

She was traveling in a 5th wheel trailer visiting a granddaughter. Funeral Service: 10:30 A.M. Saturday, January 12, 2019 at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Oelwein with Pastor Mike Andersen officiating. Visitation: 3:00 to 7:00 P.M. Friday and for one hour before the service on Saturday at the funeral home.

Interment: Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, rural Oelwein. Online obituary at www. jamisonschmitzfuneralhome.com Charlotte was born to Edna and Lionel Weldon in Lakin, Kansas on January 7, 1933.

She had an older brother Earl Weldon, a younger sister Verna Phelps and an older step sister Viola E. Gardner. Charlotte married the love of her life, James Monroe Land on July 23, 1951 in Benton County Arkansas. They were married 50 years before James passed away June 14, 2002.

Charlotte and James raised 7 children. Charlotte worked several jobs but enjoyed her last job the most. Charlotte was a pioneer for women in the workforce.

She was employed by Viking Pump of Cedar Falls for 21 years. She started as a janitor but became a chipper and grinder removing the slag from the pump molds. She was proud to be one of the first women employed by Viking Pump.

Charlotte loved traveling and meeting new people. She was happy when she earned two-week vacations at work and was able to travel to many places with James, her children Patricia and Bill. Their granddaughter Melissa went along on many of these adventures as well.

Charlotte loved to sew and make quilts. Jim traded his shotgun to get her a sewing machine that she treasured. Charlotte had recently moved to Port Angeles to live with her daughter Diana, son in law Tom and their 2 dogs.

She enjoyed traveling with them in their 5th wheel and getting to see the Pacific Northwest. She attended a senior group at the local Lutheran Church where she made many friends. Charlotte is survived by her sister: Verna (Ralph) Phelps Waukee Iowa; children: Richard Land of Oelwein Iowa, David Land of Fairbank Iowa, William Land of Fairbank Iowa, Lynda Land of Grundy Center, Charlene (Dave) Albrant of Bricelyn, Minnesota, Diana (Tom) of Port Angeles Washington and Patricia (Andy) Rock of Brandon Iowa; and many grandchildren; and many great grandchildren.
