Christopher Michael Butt, 27, unexpectedly passed in New Orleans on November 16, 2018. Chris was a fearless free spirit who yearned to travel. He found happiness on the open road with his new dog companion, Atlas.
Chris was full of energy and always had everyone on the move as a child. He had the biggest and most caring heart. Even at a young age, his love for his family and friends was obvious and strong.
As a preteen, he enjoyed going up to camp and spending time with his grandfather. His need to be outdoors stuck with him into his adult life – he enjoyed hiking and reaching new heights. Chris also found joy in both skating and cycling in the streets of Portland.
Throughout his life, he always had a powerful love for music, like his father. He took pleasure in going to local shows and experiencing the togetherness of being in a crowd of good friends. So much so that he spent time as part of a road crew and most recently worked security for local concerts.
Chris was a very skilled worker and was able to learn trades quickly. He spent several years working for the family swimming pool business, contracting, and he even worked in the restaurant business. Chris would light up the room with his sense of humor and infectious smile.
He had a certain charm about him that would lift you up in the darkest of days. Chris had his own dark days though. For the past several years Chris fought to find his place in our society.
He tried to find the best path for his sobriety and for a while, he succeeded. Unfortunately, Chris had a knack for making bad decisions that sabotaged his sobriety. In his struggle to stay clean, he began distancing himself from those who loved him unconditionally and was unable to overcome his addictions.
Chris was preceded in death by his Great Uncle, Alan Morin, and his maternal Grandmother, Joann Webb. He is survived by his loving parents – Michael and Bonnie Butt, brother Brandon Butt and sister Samantha Strout, brother-in-law Benjamin Strout and niece Savannah, maternal grandfather David Webb and wife Debra Webb, paternal grandparents James and Carlene Butt (FL. ), Uncle James and Aunt Wendy Briggs and Cousin Tyler, Great Aunt Juliana Morin and sons Adam and Nathan Morin, second cousins Larry and Wendy Farrington and their children Melanie and Kolby.
Chris is survived by countless friends who helped him along his journey. Visiting hours will be on Tuesday, November 27, 2018, from 4:00 – 6:00 PMat A.T. Hutchins Funeral Home, 660 Brighton Avenue, in Portland, with a celebration of life service, immediately following at 6:00 PM. Chris’ parents request that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Operation Hope: Project GRACE PO Box 6846, Scarborough, ME 04070; who greatly helped Chris in his most recent fight to stay clean.
They would also like to thank Second Chance Soldiers N.H. Chapter for their services to him during his hard times.
