Clara Jane Small, age 98, of Paw Paw, passed away peacefully July, 3, 2018. She was born in Bangor, MI, on January 22, 1920 to the late Herman and Evangeline (Dukesherar) Schlieter. She is survived by her son, Robert (Ruth) Small, granddaughter, Danielle (Kyle) Simonds, two great grandchildren, Mason and Allie and one sister, Elenore.

Clara was a WWII Veteran, serving as a First Lieutenant Army nurse. Following her military service, Clara worked as an RN, retiring in 1974 from Lakeview Hospital. For many years she served as a director for the local American Red Cross.

In addition to her work in healthcare, Clara also enjoyed farming fruits and vegetables. A graveside service with military honors will be held on Wednesday, August 1, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Hill Cemetery, Lawrence. Memorial contributions may be directed to the American Legion in Lawrence.
