Karahalios November 29th ,1921 – September 20th, 2018 Clare Karahalios passed peacefully on September 20th, 2018 surrounded by his beautiful and beloved wife of 73 years Alyce and family members. Clare was born in San Francisco, CA to Katina and Constantine Karahalios, immigrants from Greece who arrived in the United States in the early 1900s. Clare was raised in Richmond, CA and spent the majority of his life in Richmond.

He served his country as an Air Force Staff Sargent in World War II while stationed in England. Following his military service, Clare met and married Alyce Costa of North Carolina in 1945 and together they returned to California. In California, Clare and Alyce established their family life with sons Dean and Bobby and became active and treasured constituents of the Greek community in the East Bay region of the San Francisco Bay area while serving as devoted members of the Greek Orthodox Church of the Ascension in Oakland, CA.

Clare became a board member of the church for many years and was known for always being the first welcoming smile to greet church attendees, and turning strangers into friends with his warm personality. Clare was an accountant for the City of Richmond for 35 years and was driven to work tirelessly for improved compensation and benefits for government workers state-wide. Clare will be remembered for his strong devotion and love of family, his ethic of service to others and the many lives he touched as a result of his compassion and deep humanity.

Clare will forever be in the hearts of those he loved and those who loved him. Clare was preceded in death by his youngest son Bobby. He is survived by his devoted wife Alyce, son Dean Karahalios, daughter-in-law Carmen Karahalios, daughter-in-law Dee Karahalios, three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

A Trisagion Service will be held at the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Ascension (4700 Lincoln Ave. Oakland) beginning at 7:00p. m on Thursday September 27th.

The funeral will be held at 10:30a. m on Friday September 28th at the Cathedral followed by internment at the Sunset View Cemetery in El Cerrito, CA. For further information please call: Harry W. Greer, Funeral Director (FDR-745).
