Henry “Clay” Grace, 70, of Oskaloosa, died Saturday, February 9, 2019, at Mahaska Health Partnership Hospital in Oskaloosa. He was born October 11, 1948, in Oskaloosa the son of (Urban) Dale. and Betty (Vance) Grace.

He attended Oskaloosa High School graduating with the Class of 1966. After graduation, he attended the University of Iowa in Iowa City and William Penn University in Oskaloosa. He was united in marriage to Ginger McLaughlin on April 14, 1990 at a ceremony held at Lake Keomah.

Clay worked for various construction companies around Mahaska County before branching off on his own and starting Grace Custom Construction Company. He was a talented concrete finisher. Part of Clay’s legacy he left for Oskaloosa can be seen in the numerous concrete projects around town including the Mahaska Recreation Trail and the Freedom Rock to name a few.

He also did jobs for several businesses and homeowners. In his younger years, Clay was very active in Golden Gloves Boxing and won an All State title in 1968. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, ice fishing, pheasant and quail hunting and vintage motorcycles.

He was a lifelong resident of Oskaloosa and touched many with his kindness and generosity. Clays real joy in life was spending time with his family and friends. His family includes his wife, Ginger Grace of Oskaloosa; a daughter, Amy (Carey) Legvold of Oskaloosa; two sons, Jim (Danielle McAniff) Dundon of Albuquerque, New Mexico and Jason Grace; two grandchildren, Jordan Mier of Oskaloosa and Haley Dundon of Cave Creek, Arizona; a sister, Chris (Tim) Smith of Aurora, Colorado; his step grandchildren, Toren, Jordan, Jakob and Gabby, a brother-in-law, Pepper McLaughlin of Albuquerque, New Mexico.

He is also survived by his beloved dog, Brady. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Roy Grace; a sister, Elaine Robinson and his mother and father-in-law, Donnus and Robert McLaughlin. As was his wish, Clay’s body has been cremated and a memorial service will be held at a later date.
