Cleo A. “Sam” (Alsteen) Mayo, age 79, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Monday December 24th, 2018 after a brave fight with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). Sam, along with her twin brother Clem, was born on Labor Day, Sept. 4, 1939 on the Alsteen Farm in Lena, WI to Luben J. and Philomene A. (Meier) Alsteen.

She grew up in Neenah and graduated from Neenah High School in 1957. Sam devoted her life to her family, church and community. Sam served as the PTA Treasurer of Clayton Elementary School; she was employed at Neenah Paper as an accounting assistant, retiring in 2002.

She was a talented seamstress, enjoyed dancing and baking, was an avid Green Bay Packers, Milwaukee Brewers, Wisconsin Badgers and NASCAR #88 Fan.

Sam’s greatest joy was spending time with and caring for her grandchildren. Much of her time was spent attending baseball, football, basketball and soccer games. Sam was the devoted and loving mother of Timothy (Gail) Mayo and Melissa Mayo (Tony Rodriguez).

In addition to her children, Sam is survived by her grandchildren Jalen Franklin, Jasmine Mayo-Rodriguez, Jensen and Janae Rodriquez, Chase Mayo, Quinn Pressel (Vida Rebello) and Shelby Pressel (Josh Eake) and great grandchildren Adaliyah, Dehklyn and Finnley. Sam is further survived by her sisters Judith Schmidt and Janet Vissers and her brother James (Louise) Alsteen, sister-in-law Nathalie Alsteen; and many special nieces and nephews and her godchildren Dana Burkhart and Roger Sundin, as well as her aunt Noelle Meier and her children’s father William (Nancy) Mayo. In addition to her parents, Sam was preceded in death by her stepfather, Arthur Boerson, children Kevin and Kelly Kroeger, twin brother Clem Alsteen, brother in laws Francis (Judith) Schmidt and Jerry (Janet) Vissers.

Sam wanted to thank all the doctors, nurses and staff at Ascension Cancer Center, SPA and St. Elizabeth Hospital and all of Sam’s friends and family for their support throughout Sam’s journey home to the Lord. A special thank you to Pastor Steve and Pastor Bob and Sam’s good friend Megan Van Lieshout for their love and support through this difficult journey. Visitation will be held at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 140 S. Green Bay Road, Neenah, WI from 9:00a.m. until the time of worship at 11:00a.m. on Saturday December 29th, 2018.
