Clifford D. Thompson, 89, passed away Sunday, November 18, 2018 at Allegheny Valley Hospital. He was born in the Blanchard area of West Deer Township to Bert and Sadie Thompson on August 16, 1929. He graduated from West Deer High School, Class of 1948.

He also graduated from Allegheny County Police Academy in 1975. He was employed and retired as the First Police Chief of Fawn Township. He met and married Mary (Porter) on August 16, 1955.

He met Mary at the Fire Department playing ball. He played for West Deer Legion, Fawn Township. Later, he tried out for the Cleveland Indians as a left handed pitcher, but was drafted to Korea and served from 1951-1953.

His interest was in Fawn Township and was Supervisor for 27 years. He also was the last surviving Charter Member of Fawn Township VFD #1 with 70 years of active service where he was President for over 30 years. He used to enjoy deer hunting with his brother, Mick.

He enjoyed spending time with his family and his dog who went everywhere with him. Clifford was a member of Natrona Heights Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed going to the West Deer Alumni Association.

He was survived by his wife of 63 years, Mary E. Thompson; children, Douglas J. (Laura) Thompson of Tucson, AZ; Vicki L. (Carl) Stull and Barbara J. (Dan) Selfridge all of Fawn Township; along with his grandchildren, Nicole (Christopher) Crowder of Tucson, AZ; Sarah (Samantha Kurtz) Selfridge of Natrona Heights; Kaitlyn (John) Valentine of Tucson; Samantha (Guthrie Baker) Selfridge of Fawn Township; Ashley Guillory of Vandergrift; and his great grandson, Maxwell Clifford Crowder of Tucson, AZ. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bert and Sadie Thompson; brothers, Francis “Blue Jay”; Howard “Coon”; Harry “Mick”; and baby brother, Bert; sisters, Katherine Dodson; Grace Bryan; Dorothy McKay; Edith Comperatore; and Marie Miller. Visitation will be held from 1:00-8:00 P.M. Monday, November 19, 2018 in the Cicholski-Zidek Funeral Home, Inc. 1522 Carlisle St. Natrona Heights, PA.

Services will be held in the funeral home, Tuesday, November 20, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. with Reverend R. Cameron Malcom, IV. Burial will follow in Lakewood Memorial Park, Cheswick, PA Clifford would say, “In lieu of flowers fix the roads in Fawn Township”. In all seriousness, donations may be made to the Fawn Township VFD #1.
