Obituary for Clifton “Clif” Campbell KENNEBUNKPORT Clifton H. Campbell, Clif to his friends, 92, a lifetime resident of Beachwood Avenue, died Monday, June 18, 2018 at his home after a brief illness surrounded by his family and friends. Clif was born March 25, 1926, attended Kennebunkport Schools, and served in the US Army during WWII. Clif married Elizabeth Betty Doane in 1947, together making their home in Kennebunkport.
For 68 years together, they enjoyed family and friends gathering in their home. He found great joy in his gardens and his farm animals. They loved to go camping and to travel, but most of all, he loved “Betty”.
He joined the IUOE Union #4 as a heavy equipment operator, working on many large construction projects in New England, including the initial construction of the Maine Turnpike in 1947, where he would daily hitchhike to his worksite in Gray. He was a member of First Congregational Church in Kennebunkport, where he served as a deacon, he also was an active member of Kennebunkport American Legion, Post #159, taking an active part in building the Post building, and had served as past Commander. He was also a member of Arundel Lodge # 76, AF & AM in Kennebunkport, and together with Betty, he volunteered many hours at the York County Homeless Shelter and local food pantries, and they both were honored with the “Volunteers of Year” Award in 2011.
Clif was predeceased by his wife Elizabeth “Betty” Campbell, his son, Timothy Campbell, and his mother Ruth Leach Campbell. Survivors include three loving daughters, Pamela Sargent and her husband Reggie of Kennebunkport, Kathy Emmons and her husband Seth of Kennebunk and Karen Parent and her husband Gilman of Kennebunkport; a brother Robert Campbell of Kennebunkport, two sisters, Margaret Provencher of Kennebunk and Tina Allen of Portland; 8 grandchildren, Seth Emmons, Kristy Gott, Kelly Maddox, Nick and Justin Parent, David Campbell, Andrea Sargent and Nicole Campbell; 10 great-grandchildren; a great great grandson, step-grandson, Eric Sargent; 2 step-grandchildren and many extended, loving family members. Friends may call from 12:30-2:30 PM on Friday, June 22, 2018 at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer Street, Kennebunk.
An American Legion Service will begin at 2:30 PM, followed by a Masonic Memorial Service with the brethren of Arundel Lodge # 76, AF & AM, and a Celebration of Life Service officiated by Reverend Charles Whiston. Interment will follow at Arundel Cemetery, Kennebunkport. Should friends desire, donations in Clif’s memory can be made to The American Legion Post #159, PO Box 251, Kennebunkport, ME 04046.
